Case Study: BADR 100, “Thinking Locally”
Exceptional Education
The first-year program at Bader College is a unique and transformative opportunity for students to begin their undergraduate journey.
Our small classroom sizes ensure academic excellence while providing a personalised experience through the guidance of expert instructors and encouraging academic advisors. Our focus on both academic and co-curricular experiential learning encourages students to develop both academic confidence and personal growth.
One outstanding example of this is our core course, BADR 100 "Thinking Locally." This interdisciplinary course leverages the physical location of Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex and the rich history of the local area to help students explore major themes that shape our world in broad and interconnected ways. Students will learn about landscape, identity, cultural texts, historic documents, and artifacts, and understand how they fit into the real-life context both in the UK and globally.
BADR 100 provides students with high-level academic skills, allowing students to grow their academic comfort and confidence in ways not normally experienced until later years of study. This is achieved via hands-on skills learning and academic excursions, which build on the cultural immersion experienced by studying abroad.
Over 50% of the first-year cohort at Bader College choose to take BADR 100, bringing together students from all streams and disciplines to learn about and reflect on some of society’s most challenging issues. In addition, BADR 100 has been adapted to enable online students from around the world to join, allowing those who are unable to travel to the UK for a term to experience our unique educational vision and collaborating with on-site students and faculty.
