I hear a distant voice
through the April night,
indistinct, like
other night sounds.
Something tells me
it is the voice of the dead,
now awakened
to a new life …

Bibhu Padhi has published 18 books of poetry. His poems have appeared in major magazines throughout the English-speaking world, such as the London Magazine, the Poetry Review, the Times Literary Supplement, the American Scholar, the New Criterion, Poetry, Southwest Review, the Antigonish Review, and the Dalhousie Review. They have been included in numerous anthologies and textbooks, the most recent being The Penguin Book of Indian Poets. He lives with his family in Bhubaneswar, India.
