we pray to go unnoticed.
Spring unlocks its stern busyness
as we truly arrive from all the towns around,
remake small places in the sprawl.
Absence makes the heart go flounder …

Bill Howell’s sixth poetry collection, The Way Things Are at the Moment, has just been released by Kelsay Books. His work appears regularly in journals and anthologies in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden, Japan, and the United States. Born in Liverpool, England, he grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and has lived in Toronto for more than half his life. He was a network producer-director at CBC Radio Drama for three decades.
