One of the first things I remember renting – it came from a small shop in a strip mall round the corner from my girlfriend’s – was Being There. And I remember that moment of expectancy – arriving home with it, the tape going into the machine, the movie starting – the quietness of those early scenes, that delightful feeling of uncertainty. What window are we looking through? What world will we be shown?
