The eye I lost in a bomb blast, painstakingly replaced by doctors, is now adjusting to light, and so it will be for long months to come. Over the western border of my country there’s a drought on, the thirsty skeletons of children are begging for water and going to get thirst or relief, in their ribs life and death merge into one, as if they were drops of a leaking faucet before they hit the ground …

Adegboyega Kayowa is a poet and educator based in Lagos. Her poems explore themes of identity, culture, love, and social justice. She has been published in several online and print magazines and has won awards for her poetry. She is currently working on her first collection of poems, which she hopes to share with the world soon.
