December 27, 2022: U.S. Patent No. 11,535,745 "Biobased Additive for Thermoplastic Polyesters"

Queen’s Partnerships and Innovation is pleased to report the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 11,535,745 entitled, "Biobased Additive for Thermoplastic Polyesters," on December 27, 2022 to Nick Najafi Chaloupli, Marianna Kontopoulou, Praphulla, and Heather Simmons. The patent relates to a biobased additive that is both a nucleating and a reinforcing agent when added to thermoplastic polyester (e.g., biopolyesters). A composite material, which is an additive-reinforced biopolyester, was prepared and improved thermo-mechanical properties were quantified. This composite material is a new class of biobased material that offers a sustainable, environmentally-friendly solution for packaging and other applications.
