Queen's Partnerships and Innovation is pleased to report the issuance of Canadian Patent No. 3,034,422 "Line Power Extension for Capacitor Size Reduction in AC-DC Converters" on May 14, 2024 to Yang Chen and Yan-Fei Liu. The patent relates to AC-DC power adaptors for portable electronic devices such as laptop computers and cellphones. This invention provides circuits and methods that extend duration that the AC line provides power to the load in each line cycle, so that the size of an input capacitor can be reduced.
