Dr. George diCenzo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Queen’s University, and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Manitoba. He earned both his BSc (Hons) and PhD from McMaster University (Canada), after which he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Florence (Italy). His research group tackles diverse and complex question within the field of microbiology using a combination of experimental techniques (e.g., molecular genetics, -omics approaches, adaptive laboratory evolution) and computational methods (e.g, phylogenetic, comparative genomics, whole genome assembly and annotation, constraint-based metabolic modelling). In addition to being a Co-Lead of BENEFIT, Dr. diCenzo is a Co-Lead of the Genome Canada funded consortium Open Plastic (openplastic.com), focused on the biodegradation of plastic polymers.
