Abstract: Translating scientific data into clear and informative graphics can be challenging for researchers. In this workshop, we will discuss the advantages of integrating clear concise visuals for knowledge transfer. We will provide insight into our creative process and highlight essential content and design considerations for creating visuals. You will also leave the session with a curated list of resources for creating scientific visuals. 

Bio: Sarah is a passionate researcher and science communicator who loves to share scientific knowledge through illustrations and other visual communication strategies. She is currently a Killam, and Vanier Scholarship supported Ph.D. Candidate in Microbiology and Immunology at Dalhousie University, working in the lab of Dr. Jeanette Boudreau. With her unique expertise combining scientific communication strategies with illustration and graphic design, she founded Designs that Cell (www.designsthatcell.ca) in 2017. Designs that Cell is the first research-focused scientific illustrations and communications company in Canada. The company has grown to a team of talented post-graduate, graduate and undergraduate students with advanced degrees and real-world experience translating complex scientific concepts into simple visual communication tools using graphic design, science communication and illustration.
