Our Sonic Arts of Place Lab (SAPLab) is partnering with the DAN School of Music's Sonic Arts Studio, to fund the fourth season of the award-winning podcast The Animal Turn hosted by SAPLab member, Claudia Hirtenfelder. This season's focus is animals and sound, and the first episode is an interview with biologist Bryan Pijanowski about soundscapes and sound ecology. In the same episode, Hannah Hunter brings ears closer to the nightingale (what? as loud as a chainsaw?) Check it out here!
Now more than halfway through the season, Claudia has spoken to bioacousticians, geographers, archivists, musicians and philosophers about the ways in which animals and sound are related.
In Episode 5, "Claudia talks to Eva Meijer about voice as a concept that helps us to think about animal sounds and practices in a more politicised way. Eva touches on how a broader conception of politics and voice allows for a more nuanced actions in response to animals and the lives they are trying to lead. They also touch on the usefulness of a variety of languages, mediums, and disciplines in becoming proficient in listening to animals.”
