A new research paper titled 'A slight temperature warming trend occurred over Lake Ontario from 2001 to 2018' has been published in the journal Land. This research first provided an evaluation of
the commonly used Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)-derived lake surface temperature (LST) using in situ measurements near the area of where Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River and the Rideau Canal meet. Then the validated MODIS datasets were used to analyze the surface temperature trend from 2001 to 2018. A slight warming trend about 0.06 K per year was found during 2003–2018 and the warming trends for September and October are much more apparent than those of other months.
