Queen’s University is once again supporting the national week-long Commuter Challenge designed to promote active and sustainable commuting. The challenge runs from June 4-10 and while commuting may look different for some this year, the Queen's community is encouraged to log their commutes, whether they are telecommuting, cycling, walking, taking public transit, or using other sustainable modes of transportation. In 2019, Queen’s had 421 participants, who collectively avoided 5,016 kg of CO2 emissions and saved 2,341 litres of fuel.
The Commuter Challenge also coincides with Cycle Kingston’s Cycling Week, which encourages more community members to ride their bikes. As a part of Cycling Week, Queen's is hosting its annual Roll-in Breakfast on Tuesday June 6 from 7-9:30 a.m. on the southeast corner of University and Union (in front of Douglas Library). The Roll-in Breakfast provides participants with free breakfast as an incentive to cycle to work and join the Commuter Challenge.
