A quick roundup of the Queen’s Gaels teams and athletes in action over the weekend:

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The No. 3 Queen’s Gaels women’s basketball team saw their 16-game win streak come to an end again the Carleton Ravens on Friday but bounced back with a victory Saturday over the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Marianne Alarie tallied a game-high 14 points as the Gaels responded to their first loss of the season by putting together a solid performance in defeating Ottawa 55-44. The win puts the Gaels at 17-1 for the season which marks a program best milestone for wins in a season at 17.
 
Alarie added six rebounds and three steals, and Andrea Priamo contributed 12 points and nine rebounds in the win.

On Friday, the Gaels fell 60-52 to No. 5 Carleton in front of a boisterous crowd at the ARC.
 
Emily Hazlett scored a game-high 16 points for the Gaels, who were held to a season low in points by the top defence in the conference. Alarie added 11 points and four rebounds.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Queen’s Gaels men’s basketball team (6-12) lost both games on the weekend as they faced the No. 1 Carleton Ravens and the No. 3 Ottawa Gee-Gees

On Saturday the Gaels dropped a 72-50 decision to Ottawa. Sukhpreet Singh had a game-high 16 points, and Isse Ibrahim added 10 points and four rebounds. 

On Friday, the Gaels were unable to upend the unbeaten Ravens, losing 93-50.

Ibrahim led the Gaels with 12 points and Singh added 10 points and three steals.

MEN’S HOCKEY

The No. 9 Queen's Gaels (18-7-3) defeated the Carleton Ravens (16-9-3) 2-1 in overtime on Saturday setting a team record for wins in a season. The Gaels finished the regular season as the third seed in the OUA East and will meet the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the opening round of the OUA playoffs.

Dylan Anderson netted the OT winner and Nevin Guy scored in the second period. Jacob Brennan made 36 saves for the win.

On Friday, the Gaels were defeated 6-3 by the No. 7 Concordia Stingers (19-7-2). Scoring for the Gaels were Ryan Bloom, Anderson and Henry Thompson.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

The Queen’s Gaels (9-4-8-1) defeated the York Lions (3-2-12-4) 3-0 on Saturday in OUA women’s hockey action.  Claire McKellar and Mackenzie Stamper scored early and Hailey Wilson added an empty-netter. Stephanie Pascal made 25 saves for the shutout.
However it was a different story on Friday as the Windsor Lancers (10-1-8-2) topped the Gaels 3-0. The Lancers outshot the Gaels 28-16

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Queen’s Gaels women’s volleyball team (7-8) came away with a 3-1 win over the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves (3-14) on Sunday at the ARC. Caroline Livingston led the attack with 18 kills as the Gaels won 23-25, 25-14, 26-24 and 25-15.

WOMEN’S FENCING

The Queen’s Gaels claimed the bronze at the OUA Women's Fencing Championship hosted over the weekend at the Athletics and Recreation Centre. The overall gold went to the Western Mustangs and the RMC Paladins claimed silver.

Queen’s also picked up a pair of individual medals on Saturday, with Lily Jiang winning gold in the sabre while Jessie Pollett finished with silver in the foil.

On Sunday the Gaels sabre quartet of Kori Speck-Altenpohl, Lily Jiang, Karen Zeng and Tina Zhang won bronze.

WRESTLING

The Queen’s Gaels didn't find their way onto the podium at the OUA Wrestling Championship hosted by McMaster but came close with a pair of fourth-place finishes by Michael Tremblay (82kg) and Tina Marr (63kg).

In the overall races both the men’s and women’s teams finished seventh. The powerhouse teams from Brock won both overall titles.
