The Queen’s community is remembering Mark Fleming, a Service Support Specialist within IT Services, who passed away suddenly on Dec. 11, 2023.
A friend and colleague to many, Mark is remembered for his thirst for knowledge and new experiences. Whether in his canoe taking photos of the local wildlife, traveling the world, working on projects in his house, or helping those at Queen's with technical issues, Mark always brought a creative flare and zest for life that was greatly contagious.
A Queen's alumnus, Mark continued his journey with the university working for several decades as a Service Support Specialist within IT Services. He possessed a lifelong passion for learning, which he used persistently to understand the full breadth of the technologies that IT Services supported. Many of the greater Queen's user community came to rely on Mark as their “go-to” guy for everything technology, particularly if it was an Apple product. In those rare cases where Mark didn't have an answer, he would go to great lengths to find the answer, or at the very least, the best person to ask to find a solution.
He was predeceased by his wife Bonnie, also a former member of Queen's IT Services. The couple's generosity and spirit went well beyond their daily IT support. Over the years, they opened their home to many students and staff, effectively ‘adopting’ several by providing them with a true “home away from home.”
Mark will not soon be forgotten.
To celebrate Mark’s very full and active life, friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service which will be held on Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Edith Rankin Memorial United Church, 4080 Bath Rd., Kingston.
