The Queen’s community is remembering Liam Geddes, a fourth-year kinesiology student and a member of the Queen’s Gaels rugby team.

Liam died on March 11 at Kingston Health Sciences Centre due to injuries suffered in a fall. He was 22.

Liam was scheduled to graduate with Honours with a B.Sc. in Kinesiology this spring and had applied to attend Queen’s University in the fall to pursue a Master’s degree in neuroscience, with the eventual goal of attending medical school.

Liam was a varsity athlete and a key member of the men’s rugby program, helping them win OUA title in 2018, 2019, and silver in 2021. He represented the Gaels in the national finals each year as well, including this past fall on home field.

He is known by all who met him for having a kind heart, quick wit, and keen intellect. He was ever humble and known to give the greatest bear hugs to anyone he was with. Away from the field Liam also helped mentor other student-athletes as they adjusted to life at Queen’s and in OUA competition.

He was always actively involved in many sports including baseball, hockey, and most recently golf. He was an avid and accomplished swimmer and certified scuba diver.

In addition to being very close to his sisters and numerous cousins, he had an extremely large group of well-loved friends throughout his home in Kawartha Lakes, as well as his second home in Kingston.

Liam had registered as an organ donor of his own accord several years ago. Through his gift of organ donation, he has been able to profoundly impact the lives of four recipients and their families.

A celebration of life will take place Saturday, March 19 in Liam’s hometown of Lindsay, ON.

A memorial for the Queen's community is scheduled for Wednesday, April 6, at 2 p.m. at the Bartlett Gym, located on the second floor of Mitchell Hall.

A family obituary is available online.
