Queen’s community remembers Professor Emeritus Max Vernet

His 33-year career at Queen’s included serving as the head of the Department of French Studies.

The Queen’s community is remembering Max Vernet, a professor emeritus in the Department of French Studies who died Feb. 23 at the age of 86.

Dr. Vernet taught Frech Literature at Queen’s for 33 years and served as head of the department from 1978-85.

Born in Belleville, France, Dr. Vernet completed his studies at the Sorbonne. After first working as an adjunct at McMaster University, he moved to Kingston and Queen’s in 1966. He finished his teaching career at the Royal Military College of Canada. 

In addition to his focus on French literature, Dr. Vernet was a passionate soccer player and especially enjoyed playing the game with his friends and sometimes his sons at noon-hour at Queen's.

A celebration of life will be held in Kingston at a future date.
