A quick roundup of Queen's Gaels teams in action over the weekend:

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The No. 4 Queen's Gaels women’s basketball team (16-0) kept their perfect record intact with a 71-44 win over Toronto (7-9) Saturday night in Toronto.

Robyn Pearson secured her second double-double in as many nights as the Gaels picked up win number 16. Pearson posted 18 points and 10 rebounds in the game while Marianne Alarie had 15 points, six rebounds and four steals.

The Gaels defense was solid once again as the Varsity Blues scored just seven points in the opening quarter, shooting just 23.9% in the game and hitting only two of 20 three-point attempts.

It was a much closer game on Friday as the Gaels edged the No. 8 Ryerson Rams (12-4) 60-59.

Emily Hazlett picked up the game-winning basket with seconds remaining, and the Gaels held off a fourth-quarter in Toronto. Hazlett had a game-high 15 points to go along with four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Pearson added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

SQUASH

The Queen's Gaels women continued their dominance in OUA squash on Sunday at the Northfield Fitness and Racquet Club in Waterloo, winning their third straight banner while the Western men’s team won their 34th straight title.

The Queen’s men’s team placed fifth with an 18-30 record.

On the women's side Queen’s was unstoppable going 40-0 in their matches, cruising to the team gold. Ali Richmond led the way for the Gaels going undefeated as the top seeded player and was named the MVP. The Gaels’ Lisa Coates was named the top women’s coach for the second time in three years.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Sukhpreet Singh finished with 21 points as the Queen’s Gaels (6-10) lost 85-77 to the Toronto Varsity Blues (11-5) and passed Mitch Leger's Queen's men's basketball all-time scoring record Saturday in Toronto.

With a total of 1,345 in his five-year career as a Gael, the historic achievement is Singh’s alone to push further in his final three games this season. Tanner Graham added a double-double for the Gaels with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

On Friday the Gaels lost 70-59 decision to the No. 5 ranked Ryerson Rams (15-1). Singh and Graham each finished with 13 points

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Queen's Gaels (9-5) powered to a four-set victory over the Trent Excalibur (0-11) in men’s volleyball Friday night, 25-19, 19-25, 25-17 and 25-21.

The Gaels were led by Dylan Hunt who finished with 11 kills and 15.5 points while Zac Hutcheson had a game-high six service aces. 

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Queen's Gaels (6-8) had no trouble taking down the Trent Excalibur (2-10) in straight sets on Friday, 25-10, 25-9 and 25-18.

Caroline Livingston had a game high 11 kills and 14 points to lead the Gaels while Danielle Corrigan put down seven kills on 10 attacks.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

The Queen's Gaels (8-4-7-1) fell in a shootout 3-2 to the Ryerson Rams (4-2-11-3) Saturday in Toronto.

Addi Halladay scored her 11^th of the season and captain Jessica Wakefield also found the back of the net. However, after two overtime periods the Rams took the game in the shootout.

On Friday.the Gaels were defeated by the Western Mustangs (9-2-9-1) 6-3. The loss saw the Gaels snap their eight-game win streak. Halladay, Kyla Crouse and Wakefield scored for the Gaels.

MEN’S HOCKEY

The Queen’s Gaels (17-6-3) suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to the UOIT Ridgebacks (15-11-1) on Saturday.

The hosts went ahead 2-0 early before Patrick Downe and Darcy Greenaway tied the game with third period goals. However, the Ridgebacks took the game in overtime. Jacob Brennan made 41 saves.
