Queen’s University will close for the holidays at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and reopen at 8:30 am on Thursday, Jan. 2. Departments should turn off all office lights, close windows and doors, and set thermostats no lower than 18 C or 65 F to conserve energy.

Queen’s Postal Services will offer limited mail service on Monday, December 30. Departments can pick up their mail at 115 Barrack Street between 7:30 and 11:30 am. Regular mail service will resume Thursday, January 2.

The Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) will stay open during the holiday break and operate on modified hours beginning Saturday, December 21. Athletics and Recreation is offering holiday sports camps.

The holiday hours for campus retail food outlets and dining halls are posted on the Queen’s Hospitality Services website.

The Queen’s University International Centre (QUIC) is closed throughout the break, but will have posters with safe arrival information for incoming exchange and graduate students at the bus and train stations, as well as the airport and on the doors of the John Deutsch University Centre. QUIC is offering extended hours before classes start on January 2, remaining open until 7 pm January 2-5 and welcoming students on the weekend between 1 pm and 7 pm.

Campus Security will remain fully staffed throughout the annual shutdown and will respond to calls and emergencies 24 hours a day. Campus Security will conduct special patrols during daytime hours, in addition to its regular nightly patrols. If Queen’s community members observe suspicious activity while on campus during the shutdown period, they can contact the Emergency Report Centre at ext. 36111 (or 613 533-6111 from off campus) or by using any emergency or assistance phone. Visit the Campus Security website for additional security tips or to sign up for security alert emails.
