Queen’s will be closed starting at 4:30 pm Friday, December 21 through to 8:30 am on Wednesday, January 2. Departments should turn off all office lights, close windows and doors, and set thermostats no lower than 18 C or 65 F to conserve energy.
Queen’s Postal Services will offer limited mail service on Friday, December 28. Departments can pick up their mail at 115 Barrack Street between 9 am and noon. Regular mail service will resume Wednesday, January 2.
The Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) will stay open during the holiday break and operate on modified hours beginning Friday, December 21. Athletics and Recreation is offering holiday sports camps January 2-4.
The holiday hours for campus retail food outlets and dining halls are posted on the Queen’s Hospitality Services website.
The Queen’s University International Centre (QUIC) is closed throughout the break, but will have posters with safe arrival information for incoming exchange students at the bus and train stations, as well as the airport and on the doors of the John Deutsch University Centre. QUIC is offering extended hours before classes start on January 7, remaining open until 9 pm January 2-4 and welcoming students on the weekend between 1 pm and 9 pm.
Campus Security will remain fully staffed throughout the annual shutdown and will respond to calls and emergencies 24 hours a day. Campus Security will conduct special patrols during daytime hours, in addition to its regular nightly patrols. If Queen’s community members observe suspicious activity while on campus during the shutdown period, they can contact the Emergency Report Centre at ext. 36111 (or [613] 533-6111 off campus), or by using any emergency or assistance phone. Visit the Campus Security website for additional security tips or to sign up for security alert emails.
