26 sets of transportable bleachers are being erected at Richardson Stadium in advance of the Gaels’ football season and two Homecoming weekends.

“Richardson Stadium is a busy place right now. In addition to the assembly of the bleachers, we are doing some landscaping and other maintenance work in anticipation of a busy football season,” says Brian Makosky, Project Manager, Physical Plant Services.

The new bleachers are 10 tiers high and approximately 33 feet long. They are transportable and can thus be repositioned.

Physical Plant Services worked closely with Athletics and Recreation to determine the positioning of the temporary bleachers, which will be erected on the upper east side of the stadium and at the north and south ends on the track surrounding the field.

“The bleacher seating at track level will allow our football fans to be close to the action and experience the game in a much more intimate way,” says Leslie Dal Cin, Director, Athletics and Recreation. “We are excited to welcome Gaels fans to Richardson for what promises to be a very exciting football season.”

The university’s ultimate goal is to revitalize its playing fields and Richardson Stadium to be among the highest quality university facilities in Canada to inspire the community, support student health and wellness, showcase Queen’s athletic successes, and recruit train, and challenge scholar-athletes. The Fields and Stadium Project is a $25 million priority of the Initiative Campaign.

The Gaels’ first home game is Monday, September 2 against the McMaster Marauders. For the full schedule visit the Athletics and Recreation website.
