Queen’s University graduate students and post-doctoral trainees have received more than $4.14 million in scholarships and fellowships from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

“This award funding for our master’s and doctoral students, as well as our postdoctoral trainees, provides crucial support as they pursue exciting research projects. These promising researchers tackle societal challenges and examine current-day issues while often proposing progressive solutions with considerable cultural, social, and economic benefit,” says Brenda Brouwer, Vice-Provost and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies. “This funding is a testament to the achievements of our students and trainees and recognizes them as outstanding and innovative researchers.”

Among the award winners were 46 students who received master’s scholarships valued at $17,500, twenty-two doctoral students who received SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships valued at $20,000 annually, and 21 doctoral students who received the prestigious Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Doctoral Scholarship valued at $35,000 annually. In addition, four of Queen’s post-doctoral trainees received fellowships with a combined value of $294,168.

The research projects for which graduate and post-doctoral trainees received funding were spread across the humanities and social sciences, including such topics as emotion in children with epilepsy, gender violence in Africa, race in Louisiana, making sense of our obligations to future generations, and positive youth development in sport.
