Innovative initiatives promoting inclusion in the workplace at Queen’s are highlighted in the latest of a series of publications issued by the Council on Employment Equity (CEE) and the Equity Office.

“A goal of this publication is to give readers some insight and offer ideas on what they could be doing to forge ahead in the areas of employment equity and inclusivity,” says Irène Bujara, Director, Equity and Human Rights Offices.

Profiles of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, the Ban Righ Centre, and CFRC Radio 101.9FM provide examples of how academic, non-academic and student administrated units are moving forward on diversity. The publication also highlights some new equity initiatives, such as an employment equity newsletter and an equity planning tool.

“We wanted the fourth installment in this series to emphasize that employment equity is more than just numbers and statistical compliance. It’s about building an inclusive environment where all members of the Queen’s community feel valued and engaged,” says Gordon Smith, Chair, CEE.

The CEE, established in 1989, promotes a climate favourable to equity on campus with a focus on human resources. The council is seeking to raise its profile as a resource through activities, including an information fair and luncheon held for the first time last year, and the annual Employment Equity Award. This year’s recipient will be honoured at a ceremony February 28 – an event that will also include presentations of the Human Rights Initiative Award and the Steve Cutway Accessibility Award.
