Queen’s Librarian Corinne Laverty will be awarded the prestigious Librarianship Award by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the profession.

"It's a pleasure to see Cory recognized in this way by her peers. Over the course of her career she has played many significant parts in advancing teaching and learning, here at Queen's and in the profession at large," says Martha Whitehead, University Librarian.

Dr. Laverty, who is a teaching and learning specialist and head of the Education Library and the Teacher Resource Centre, has focused her career at Queen’s on the development of information literacy and research competencies across disciplines.

Those who nominated Dr. Laverty for the award described her as an “intensely dedicated librarian” who is a leader in research, mentorship, teaching and service. She has a deep and abiding curiosity about how learners search for information, and uses her research to promote student success and train colleagues both within and beyond her university.

“The collection and evaluation of information underpins critical thinking and these competencies are acknowledged as desired academic literacies around the world,” says Dr. Laverty. “Everyone can find, but how do you uncover and reveal? How do you dig deeper to trigger new learning, new discoveries, new futures?”

The award will be formally presented to Dr. Laverty at OCUFA’s 40th annual awards ceremony in Toronto on September 28.
