Queen's and PSAC Unit 2 ratify collective agreement

Both the university and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Local 901, Unit 2 have ratified a first collective agreement for post-doctoral fellows at Queen’s.
The parties began negotiations in April, 2012 and reached a tentative agreement on Oct. 15, 2013 with the assistance of a provincial conciliation officer. PSAC held a ratification vote for its members on Monday, Oct. 21 and the university’s Board of Trustees ratified the agreement on Thursday, Oct. 24.
“I am very pleased that both parties have ratified this first collective agreement,” said Dan Bradshaw, Associate Vice-Principal (Faculty Relations). “It is the result of hard work and good faith all around the table.”
The collective agreement, which runs from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2016, establishes a minimum base salary for post-doctoral fellows and extends their benefits coverage to include the Queen’s dental plan.
The salary increases in each of the four years are 0 per cent, 0 per cent with a one-time-only payment of $600, 1.75 per cent and 2.0 per cent.
The collective agreement will be posted to the Faculty Relations and Human Resources webpages in the near future.
