[Alan Travers]Flags on campus are lowered in memory of Alan Travers, who recently retired from Queen's after working 42 years in the Faculty of Education.

Flags that are currently lowered will also honour retired staff member Alan Travers.

Mr. Travers recently retired from Queen’s after working 42 years in the Faculty of Education. For 33 years leading up to his retirement in 2012, he was the coordinator of Education Career Services, which he founded in 1979. Education Career Services provides career and job-search advice to Queen’s teacher candidates. He was also instrumental in connecting students with international opportunities. He built strong relationships with schools around the world and establish the annual Teachers Overseas Recruiting Fair.

In keeping with Mr. Travers' wishes, cremation has already taken place, and there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Education Community Initiatives Fund to support international initiatives by Education students in memory of Mr. Travers would be appreciated by the family. A cheque payable to Queen's University, with Alan Travers name in the memo field, can be mailed to Queen's University, Office of Advancement, 99 University Ave, Kingston, ON K7L 3N6. Secure online gifts can be made by visiting www.givetoqueens.ca and designating your gift to the Education Community Initiatives Fund in memory of Alan Travers.
