Queen’s Enrichment Studies Unit (ESU) has a new home in the Division of Student Affairs. The ESU was previously based in the Faculty of Arts and Science, but is now part of the division’s Housing and Ancillary Services portfolio.

Since 1987, the ESU has offered high-achieving students from grades six through 12 the opportunity to come to Queen’s and be taught by professors and graduate students in a variety of disciplines and experience all that the university has to offer.

“This change will allow the university to maximize the reach of ESU programs that give younger students the experience of studying at university,” says Bruce Griffiths, Executive Director of Housing and Ancillary Services. “We will continue to work with all faculties to deliver a breadth of enrichment opportunities for middle and high school students from across the province, country and around the world.”

This move also furthers the university's goal of increasing on-campus activity during the summer months.

Students are recommended for ESU participation by high school teachers, counselors or administrators, based on academic performance, motivation, effort and interest.

The programs are open to local students, who can ‘commute’ to class at Queen’s, as well as students who travel to Kingston and live in residence for their week-long session. This spring and summer, up to 3,500 students are expected to take part.
