Plans to build two new residences on Queen’s campus are moving forward after Kingston city council approved zoning by-law amendments for the two sites.

“A lot of thought and planning has gone into the location, design, and functionality of these two buildings, and we are pleased that Kingston city council approved our application,” says Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) Alan Harrison. “These residences will provide the flexibility to accommodate students at all levels - first-year, upper-year, graduate and international.”

Construction of the residences, located on Albert Street and Stuart Street respectively, is slated to begin later this year, with the buildings scheduled to open in September 2015. City staff will issue notification of Council’s decision in the near future, which is subject to an appeal period.

The residences will provide living accommodations for approximately 550 students, and will be located close to existing amenities and services.

Queen’s residences provide living and learning communities for students, and living on campus is a major part of the residential experience for which Queen’s is so well-known. The buildings were also designed with accessibility in mind, and will include several accessibility features.

The university will provide regular updates throughout the construction process.
