Harvey Rosen

Former Kingston mayor Harvey Rosen (Law’75) and local businessperson/philanthropist Susan M. Creasy (Arts/PHE’77, Ed’78) will be honoured by the Kingston branch of the Queen’s University Alumni Association for their contributions to the Kingston and Queen’s communities.

“We are delighted to honour both of these outstanding individuals, who have given back to the Queen’s and Kingston communities in so many ways,” says Kingston Branch president Lee Wetherall (Ed’76, MBA’82). “Harvey Rosen has always maintained close ties to his alma mater and has greatly strengthened town-gown relations. Susan Creasy is extremely passionate about Kingston and absolutely exemplifies the spirit of Queen’s.”

Mr. Rosen is the 2013 winner of the Padre Laverty Award, which was inaugurated in 1967 and given to a graduate for their service to town/gown relations. He was elected the 94th mayor of Kingston in 2003 and re-elected in 2006 before retiring from the position in 2010. He owns and manages the Ontario vacation retreat The Cottages on Turtle Hill with his wife Sharon.

As mayor, he worked tirelessly to promote the combined interest of the university and the city and bring them together, whether it was honouring Queen’s Vanier Cup-winning football team or supporting the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.

Susan Creasy

Ms Creasy is the winner of the Jim Bennett Achievement Award, which was inaugurated in 1993 and is given to a Kingstonian who has made outstanding contributions to the Kingston or Queen’s community through their career, sports, art or volunteering. Ms Creasy, owner of Susan Creasy Financial Inc., was honoured for her volunteer and philanthropy work with a Queen’s Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and a Gretzky World Charity Award.

Ms Creasy was named the Kingston business person of the year by the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce and is an inductee of the Kingston Business Hall of Fame. She has donated her time and talent to organizations such as the Limestone Learning Foundation, Kingston General Hospital and the Frontenac’s Children’s Aid Society.

Mr. Rosen and Ms Creasy will be honoured at the Kingston Branch Awards dinner on May 16.
