WEN-DO WOMEN’S SELF DEFENCE
Please join us the weekend of March 16 and 17 at Queen’s for a free basic women’s self-defence course. This free course is sponsored by the Office of the Vice-Principal (Culture, Equity, and Inclusion) and open to women and women identified Queen’s students, staff, and faculty.
Wen-Do Women’s Self-Defence course covers a wide variety of physical and verbal self-defence techniques, awareness and avoidance of threatening situations, and discussions of psychological, social, and legal issues involved in self-defence. The training is available to women of all abilities. Masking is mandatory throughout the training. Space is limited, so please register soon. Dr. Jennifer Flemming is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Queen’s University with clinical training in gastroenterology, hepatology and liver transplantation. She is also an ICES Adjunct Scientist and Site Director of ICES Queen's.
Dr. Flemming is a clinician scientist who leads a research program which leverages Ontario administrative data housed at ICES to evaluate the epidemiology and outcomes of patients with cirrhosis and recently appointed as the ICES-Queen’s Site Director. Her research has been supported by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR), American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program.

Setting and maintaining boundaries can be challenging and uncomfortable, especially when we hold care or support roles. Explore strategies and reflect on your own unique situations to find ways to support your own needs, while respecting responsibilities and others with kindness and care.
There are often signs that our boundaries are being challenged, which can add to stress, frustration, guilt, and worry. Whether we are striving to set and maintain a boundary with ourselves or others, striking the right balance can feel like a tightrope walk. When we understand our reasons for setting boundaries in the first place and view boundary-setting more as a practice, the better equipped we are to create space for a different relationship with ourselves and others.

Being, Training, and Employing Data Scientists: Wisdoms and Warnings from Harvard Data Science Review
On March 21, 2024, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, will host a distinguished lecture with Xiao-Li Meng, Founding Editor of Harvard Data Science Review and one of the world’s leading statisticians. Please join us for the online Queen’s School of Nursing Academic Series entitled 'Cancer burden and outcomes for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities', presented by Alyson Mahar, PhD. This event is free, and open to all.
Dr. Alyson Mahar is an epidemiologist and health services researcher. Her goal is to help all Canadians with cancer get a quick diagnosis, the best treatment, and to live long and well by identifying and addressing inequities in cancer care delivery.
She leads a project focused on cancer among adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities in Ontario and Manitoba. The project received funding from CIHR and Dr. Mahar is funded by the Canadian Cancer Society as an Emerging Scholar for MEGAN-CAN.
