Dr. Jodi Webber received her PhD in Aging and Health from Queen's University. She is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Algoma University, and a qualitative researcher focusing on experiences of unpaid caregiving in rural communities, health systems and policy, and moral distress experiences in community-based health and social care experiences.  Dr. Webber is currently working with the Algoma Ontario Health Team, the North East Specialized Geriatric Centre and the Ontario Collaborative for Aging Well on projects that impact the community.

Please join us for this discussion on Dr. Webber's important research. For those who are unable to attend, the seminar will be recorded and posted to our YouTube Channel for later viewing.

Description:

Join Queen’s University Research Projects Advisors and very special guest Dr. Dawn McArthur — live and in-person! — for this hands-on, half-day grant-writing workshop at the Donald Gordon Centre.

While participants have the option of attending virtually, in-person attendees are likely to benefit more from what the workshop has to offer. Dr. McArthur will be providing tools and strategies designed to address the start-to-finish challenges of successful research grant proposals, regardless of discipline or specific funding agency.

Both early-career and established faculty members stand to benefit from the workshop, which will be divided into the following four components:  

  • Thinking: Laying the groundwork 
  • Planning: Mapping the research framework & plan 
  • Drafting: Finding the superstructure & translating to text
  • Refining: Reviewing, reworking, crafting the style, finalizing

Following the workshop, researchers will be better prepared to find appropriate funding; interpret requests for applications; develop their research ideas, project plans, and budgets; and craft a competitive proposal.

Description:

Join the Department of Surgery at the Quality Inn & Conference Centre for a new full-day program filled with various surgical topics and skills for primary care practitioners!

The program will begin with sessions that will explore a range of topics from the management of skin lesions to assessment strategies and evidence-based approaches for thyroid conditions, the shoulder, common cervical spine complaints, refractory GERD, dysphagia, hernias and mitral valve dysfunction.

The sessions will be followed by a hands-on carousel during which attendees will practice various surgery-based skills and integrate feedback from surgeon-coaches.

A committee from the International Association of Universities (IAU) will visit Queen’s in order to provide advice on the university’s next global engagement strategic plan, which will build on the Principal’s Strategic Framework and the recommendations from the Global Engagement Operational Priorities Working Group. The IAU delegates will be providing an initial overview of their findings.
