Ingenuity Labs Invited Lecture: Paul Webster Engineering and Entrepreneurship

Abstract: In this talk, I recount some of my journey from Queen's engineering student to becoming an entrepreneur in the laser manufacturing and automation industry. Stories of eye surgery, 3D printing, giant lasers wielded by robots, dolphins and WWII bombers will be told. Anyone with an interest in becoming a technology entrepreneur should attend, as should those who have never really thought about it before.

Biography:

Paul Webster completed his Doctorate in Engineering Physics at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario in 2012. After graduation, he founded Laser Depth Dynamics, which was the first company to commercialize Inline Coherent Imaging for the direct measurement of weld penetration depth in industrial processes. In 2017, Laser Depth Dynamics was acquired by IPG Photonics Corporation (NASDAQ: IPGP) where Paul continues to work as the General Manager and Chief Technology Officer of their Canadian subsidiary.
