Description:

Join us as Rosa Idalia shares her reflections on the right to higher education in light of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Following the lecture, the Scientific Director of the International Centre for the Advancement of Community Based Rehabilitation (ICACBR), Dr. Heather Aldersey, will facilitate a Q&A discussion between Rosa Idalia and attendees.

This event is available in person on Queen's campus and online via Zoom. 

All are welcome - students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members!

Please note that this presentation will be given in Spanish. Live translation will be available. If you plan to attend in person, please bring a smartphone and headphones to listen to it in English.

 

About Rosa Idalia

Dr. Rosa Idalia Aldana Salguero is a renowned academic, human rights advocate, and expert in strategic communication from Guatemala. With a PhD in Strategic and Social Communication and a Master's in Gender Inequality in Social Sciences, she has over 24 years of experience as a university professor at the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. Dr. Aldana is a passionate human rights defender who has dedicated her work to advocating for persons with disabilities. From 2021 to 2024, she was an Independent Expert for the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She is also the founder and president of the Asociación Gente Pequeña de Guatemala, supporting individuals with achondroplasia
