I have taught at Queen’s since 1999. My teaching ranges from first through fourth year undergraduate and graduate courses, always emphasizing close reading, detailed attention to how the formal and material aspects of texts contribute to meaning. I am the publisher of the Picton Gazette, founded in 1830, Canada's oldest weekly newspaper.
Restoration and eighteenth-century literature, especially satire, the sublime, the novel, print culture. Among the authors most important to me are Swift, Pope, Richardson, Sterne and Austen. My current research involves updating the Picton Gazette for the twenty-first century, situating the reporting of this paper within a global context, and examining its archive to trace connections between our present and our past.
