Linghui Jin is a graphic designer with a journalism and communication background. She holds two master's degrees, one in Journalism and Communication from Nanjing University in China, and the other one in Communications Design from Pratt Institute in the USA. Her MFA thesis at Pratt Institute explores the history of graphic novels fraught with heavy topics, and she perceives that the effects of comics are significant when people attempt to deliver hard truth and facts in a relatively moderate way. In the end, she creates a 45-page graphic story revealing the cruel history of the Chinese “comfort women”, a group of females who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military during World War II. At Queen's, she will continue to focus on historical comics from an interdisciplinary perspective and create combinations that embrace the fine arts, history, and feminism studies in her work.
