Abdelrahman Kamel is an Egyptian cultural analyst, art historian and researcher with an interest in Middle Eastern studies and Identity politics. His academic background includes studies in culture and politics from Georgetown University, a master of arts in Museum and Gallery Practice from the University College London, as well as an additional master degree in art history from the University of Toronto. He worked as a research assistant on multiple projects involving the Qatar National Museum, The Media Majlis, as well as the Royal Ontario Museum, where he had extensive training with collections and museum practices. During his specialization in museum studies, he concentrated on community engagement, fundraising and education, focusing primarily on theories addressing cultural integration in institutions of memory.
Currently, his doctoral research concentrates on international museum networks in relation to contemporary museums in the Arabian Peninsula. His research investigates how the history of museology and practices of collecting can provide a framework to understand the cultural discourse of individual state politics, as well as the contested modernity of postcolonial heritage preservation in highly capitalizing developing nations.
