Why learn Greek? Ancient Greek is one of the key languages preserved from Antiquity and—breaking news—it’s not dead: it continues to be spoken and written (especially as Modern Greek), and to have a profound impact on our world. Greek provided the source for the Latin alphabet many of us use today. About 5% of common English vocabulary is directly derived from Greek (which increases significantly if one takes into account Latin words derived from Greek, or scientific terms!). Decipher ancient texts, perform proverbs or poems, and unlock the keys of this living language in an active learning environment. By the end of this course, you will be able to say "It's not all Greek to me” and dive into the works of famous writers like Aristotle and Aesop!
Note: This course is taught over Fall and Winter as GREK 112A & GREK 112B
