CLST 102

Type: 100 level
Units: 3.00
Term: Fall 2024
Instructor: Dr. Colivicchi
Delivery: In-Person
Textbook:

What was it like to live in ancient Greece? This course will provide an introduction to the major aspects of ancient Greek society, literature, and culture. We will look at ancient Greece on its own terms through the examination of primary sources of all types (artistic, archaeological and literary sources in translation). We also evaluate ancient Greece's complex legacy in modern societies.

A detailed analysis of political and military history will not be attempted (see CLST 200). Instead, the emphasis is placed on the religious, cultural, and intellectual development of ancient Greece in general (not only in Athens, despite the textbook’s title).
