As we embark on the holiday season, many of you are busy planning your travels to visit family and friends and will be hitting the road, sky, or rails in the coming weeks. Here in the office, we are thinking travel for a host of other reasons. As part of the emerging Advancement Regional Strategy, one of our key objectives is to:

Develop an integrated approach to regional strategy to align Advancement and campus partners with three- to five-year market plans by April 30, 2020.

We are working to consolidate all Advancement and faculty travel plans into a central calendar for co-ordination and strategy development purposes. We are asking everyone to please forward their travels plans to Nicole Lynch, Development Co-ordinator, by noon on Dec. 12 (Thursday). For more information, please contact Liz Gorman.

Advancement Holiday Charity Support

One of my favourite events of the year is the Advancement Holiday Party. The community charity component is a tradition that I feel extremely proud to be a part of. This year, Advancement voted to support Addiction and Mental Health Services - KFLA as our charity of choice. We are off to a terrific start with $1,110 raised to date. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed. If, like me, life got in the way and you missed the party this year or you just haven’t had a moment to donate, it’s not too late. You have until Dec. 12 to make your gift. You can log into the event website and make a straight donation here.

Another option is to support the Partners in Mission Foodbank. Throughout the month of December, your colleagues in the Old Medical Building are participating in our second annual “16 Days of Cheer.” For each working day until the holiday break, they identify a unique activity or theme to celebrate the season. Some of the highlights include the selfless act day, and the ever-popular door decorating competition. On Tuesday Dec. 10, the activity is preparing a donation for the Partners in Mission Foodbank. We’d love to make the donation as BIG as possible, so we are inviting all of Advancement to bring non-perishable food items to the 2nd floor kitchen in the Old Medical Building. Our deadline for donations is noon on Wednesday, Dec. 11 and all donations will be delivered later that same day.

Here's a list of items that the Partners in Mission Foodbank has listed as most needed:

  • Canned meat and fish
  • Peanut butter and jam
  • Stews, canned tomatoes
  • Baby food, formula, diapers
  • Rice and pasta
  • Cereal
  • Tea, coffee, sugar

Congratulations to Val, Your 2019 Heney Award Recipient

“Val is extremely dedicated to providing service to her fellow colleagues in Advancement. She goes above and beyond all the time. She is constantly trying to understand the user needs and the business they operate in to ensure the best possible outcome and data. She knows how to prioritize and is extremely professional under pressure. She is extremely reliable and consistent. I know ITM constantly rely on her for resilience and judgement. She is there "go-to" all the time. She may be quiet/reserved but is definitely a silent leader.”

Holidogs (and Cats) Photo Competition

Last week, Scott invited Advancement to share pictures of their pets for a chance to win a Tim Hortons prize pack and a special gift for the pet for their (forced) participation.

The winner is Kym Cook's dog!

Our esteemed judging panel said this:

"Reagan's face says it all — the embarrassment of an Elizabethan collar is more than doubled by the ingenious addition of a Christmas wreath. Reagan deserves a little something extra under the tree for being such a good sport."

Thank you to all who entered. Here are a few more happy holiday pets.
