Many of you will have read the Alumni Relations Review (please login to the VPN to access or find it on QUIRC > Resource Center > Documents >  Departmental Documents >  Alumni Relations > Alumni Relations External Review: Assessment Report) completed recently by Chris Vlahos. This review was recommended based on the findings of the Forward, Together strategic planning process.

We wanted to dig a little deeper to understand what we needed to do to be a leader in alumni relations. You might be taken aback by the bluntness of the report.

VP Bertrand and I made the decision to be fully transparent with the report in the same manner we were throughout the strategic planning process. We have an incredibly dedicated and hardworking team in Alumni Relations and Annual Giving and aspects of this report certainly were tough for all of us to read.

I do believe, however, that it has also inspired us. I view this assessment as an opportunity to build on the prior successes in AR&AG.

In the past few years, our stakeholders’ needs have evolved and continue to evolve at a rapid rate. The world has recently changed dramatically. We need to fundamentally change the way we do business to continue to serve our stakeholders in a manner that makes us proud. With the help of this report, I am confident we will do so. I am excited about our future and what we can do together.

Virtual Town Hall for Castle Grads

Last week, Bader International Study Centre alumni were invited to join the leadership team for a virtual town hall to hear about what a remote fall will look like for the 100 students admitted to the Castle program this year.

The team shared plans for small class sizes, experiential learning opportunities through virtual tours, alumni guest speakers, and a specialized student support experience, including “houses” à la Harry Potter. To get a copy of the recording from the Town Hall, please contact Maryanne Wainman.

Help Us Recruit Alumni for Calling Campaign

The Advancement Regional Strategy Team is working closely with the Faculty of Arts and Science on a campaign for alumni to connect with international and out-of-province upper-year Arts and Science students to check in, share experiences, and mitigate summer melt (those students who may choose not to return this fall).

We are asking for your help recruiting trusted volunteers and/or donors who are willing and able to assist with the calling campaign. We are looking for alumni with whom you are familiar, and whose suitability for contacting students you are comfortable vouching for. While Arts and Science grads are preferred, this is not exclusive to them – the goal will be for the students to hear from engaged alumni.

If you have suggestions, please contact Maddy Palmer for further details including a volunteer recruitment email template.

Final Day of Annual Giving Calling Initiative

Tomorrow, June 30 marks the final day for the Annual Giving Calling Initiative! A friendly reminder to all who participated in the outreach, please ensure contact reports are filed so we can begin the reporting analysis of this project.

A Memorable End to Advancement Enhancement Month

VP Bertrand tweeted on Friday that “Advancement Enhancement Month for advancement staff came to a memorable end this afternoon …” and we could not have said it better ourselves!

Friday’s closing ceremonies, meant to provide a comedy break and wrap up Enhancement Month, did not quite go as expected, but we want to thank you for your participation and hope you enjoyed the activities held throughout the month.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our charity of choice, Lionhearts Inc. We are thrilled to announce that Advancement has reached our goal of providing 300 meals. Well done!

The Committee welcomes your feedback on this year's Advancement Enhancement. Please take a moment to answer our survey.

Did You Know?

Chancellors

The chancellor is the highest officer and the ceremonial head of the university. Modelled after similar positions at Scottish universities, the office was created in 1874 and first filled in 1877.

The chancellor presides over convocations, confers degrees, and chairs the annual meetings of the University Council. They are an ex-officio voting member of the Board of Trustees and many of its committees.

The chancellor is also a member of the University Council Executive Committee and the Honorary Degrees Committee of the Senate.

Joint board-senate committees for the selection of a principal are normally chaired by the chancellor.

The chancellor is appointed for a renewable three-year term by the University Council.
