ARTH 354 Age of Rembrandt Units: 3.00
A detailed study of painting and related arts in the Netherlands, ca.1580-1700. Developments in style and the growth of subject types such as genre, portraiture, landscape, and still life are examined in the cultural context of life in the Dutch Republic, with particular attention to the achievements of artists such as Rembrandt, Hals, and Vermeer.

Course Learning Outcomes:
- Engage in visual, iconographic, and contextual analysis of works of art.
- Engage in reading, research, writing, discussion, and critical thinking about art and its history, with particular attention to Dutch art of the 17th century.
- Understand critical terms and concepts related to the study of art history, especially topics covered in this course, and use them correctly in discussion and in writing assignments.
