APSC 199  Engineering Communications 1  Units: 0.50  
This course develops skills that are necessary to organize and present technical information in a professional context. It will develop skills relevant to technical and non-technical audiences, including effective argumentation, structure, concision, and vocabulary. Students will demonstrate proficiency in spoken and written English relevant to engineering activities. This course is integrated with APSC 101, and coordinated by the same instructors.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  1. Organize and present technical information in a professional context.
  2. Demonstrate the correct use and choice of technical vocabulary.
  3. Use correct grammar, sentence structure and syntax, word order, paragraph structure, formality, and tone to address and sign off on a letter adhering to academic writing conventions needed for a professional report.
  4. Demonstrate how to report relevant information and when to discard unnecessary details.
  5. Build listening comprehension skills.
