Multimedia and alternative formats

The use of multimedia content in web pages is complicated at best. By its very nature and name, multimedia content employs more than one media to convey information to the end user (e.g. text, audio, graphics, animation, video). However, for users who cannot take advantage of one of the sensory streams in the multimedia (audio, visual, other) developers are required to provide the equivalent information in an accessible alternative format.
