Munir Sheikh, the former Chief Statistician of Canada, has joined the School as Distinguished Fellow and Adjunct Professor. Dr. Sheikh will contribute to the research, teaching and outreach activities of the School. In the public service of Canada, he was the Chief Statistician of Canada (2008-10); Deputy Minister (2005-2008) Labour; Deputy Secretary to Cabinet (2004-2005) Expenditure Review, Privy Council Office; Associate Deputy Minister (2003-2004) Department of Finance; Associate Deputy Minister (2001-2003) Ministry of Health; and, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister (1998-2001) Tax Policy Branch, Department of Finance. He held various other positions in the Government of Canada (1972-1998). Dr. Sheikh taught part time for 15 years at the University of Ottawa and at Carleton University. Courses taught were Public Finance, International trade, Economic Development and Macroeconomics. He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Western Ontario, London, in 1973. He has numerous publications in academic journals.
