King Abdullah Scholarship (Saudi Arabia Agreement)
Queen's University signed an agreement with the Saudi Arabia Cultural Bureau in Canada (Bureau) in relation to the King Abdullah scholarship program.
In order to apply for a King Abdullah scholarship, a student must contact the Bureau. This is the agency representing the King Abdullah Scholarship Program and provides scholarships to Saudi students for studies abroad in all programs of study.
Once a scholarship has been confirmed, then the student may apply for admission into Queen's. All regulations & requirements of Queen's admissions must be followed.
Role of Saudi Arabia Cultural Bureau (Bureau)
The Bureau will provide applications of pre-sponsored students to be considered for admission by departments/programs who will then make their recommendation to the School of Graduate Studies in adherence to the University's application and admission procedures.
The Bureau will typically forward only those applications from applicants who have already achieved the required levels of English-language proficiency or are awaiting the final test scores which must be confirmed in advance of receiving a formal offer of admission.

The Bureau will pay the costs for Saudi students admitted to graduate programs at Queen's University, including full international tuition and student fees, accommodation and living expenses, transportation, medical and dental expenses not covered by insurance, UHIP premiums and entry fees.
- Masters students will be funded for up to two years and doctoral students will be funded for up to four years.
- Students supported by the Bureau are not eligible for Queen's internal awards. Teaching Assistantships can be awarded at the discretion of the Department.
- For students who have not yet achieved the required level of English proficiency for admission to the School of Graduate Studies, the Bureau will also pay for ESL training at the Queen's School of English.
The University agrees that, if for any reason a Student ceases to be a student under the terms of this MOU, including the requirement to withdraw on academic grounds, fees (including tuition, laboratory and related fees) will be refunded to the Bureau in accordance with the applicable University financial policies governing fee refunds. The Bureau shall ensure that the Student has sufficient funds to return to Saudi Arabia without penalty if that Student so wishes.
The Bureau also agrees to provide a one-time payment of up to $5,000 for each Master's student and $10,000 for each doctoral student to be applied to the student's bench fee and/or research and consumable materials. The student's supervisor/program director will provide the Bureau with a letter setting out the amount of funds required and the specific uses to which the funds will be applied.
English Language Requirements
English language testing requirements are waived for students who recently (within the last 12 months) completed their undergraduate studies at a university where English is the primary language of instruction. Students who did not complete their undergraduate degree in an English-language institution must provide proof of English language proficiency. The following summarizes the tests and associated scores required by the School of Graduate Studies (some graduate programs have minimum requirements that are higher):
TOEFL Internet based test (TOEFL iBT): 88 (out of 120)
IELTS: 7 (academic module)
If a final grade of A- or more in ESLA 140 or ESLA 150 from Queen's University's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program is achieved at the time of application, an English language test score may not be required.
