Pre-Authorized Payment Plan (PPL)

The Pre-Authorized Payment Plan (PPL) is a payment program open to eligible graduate students only, who have NO DEBT from a prior Academic Year. There is no fee, or extra charge, to join the payment plan.

For students not on the PPL, fees are due according to the regular due dates.

The PPL will pick up fees that have been assessed in SOLUS for tuition, student assistance levy, student activity fees (mandatory and optional), Residence fees, MyFunds (meal plans) and UHIP, and divide the amounts owing over the scheduled withdrawal dates of the plan.

Monthly payments are automatically withdrawn on the specified date, no need to make online payments!
You just need to make sure there are enough funds in your bank account to cover the withdrawal. Please check your SOLUS account to verify the amount that will be withdrawn.

Self-enrol on SOLUS

Each Academic Year, you must self-enrol on SOLUS in a payment plan for that academic year if you wish to participate. For example, if you participated in 2016-2017, you will NOT be enrolled automatically in the 2017-2018 plan. Enrolment for the upcoming Fall/Winter PPL occurs July 1st – September 20th each year.

How to Enrol

Enrol through SOLUS.

EXCEPTION: If you’re returning from a leave of absence and do not have outstanding debt, but the system says you are not eligible, complete the PPL enrolment form and send it to fees@queensu.ca to enroll in the PPL.

NOTE: Students do not need to enter banking info to enroll in the plan. But banking info MUST be entered BEFORE the first withdrawal or the student will be removed from the plan. It MUST be a CAD account held at a Canadian financial institution.  Accounts held in a foreign country, a line of credit account or a credit card account are ineligible for the PPL.

Ensure both Fall and Winter term fees have been applied to your account

It is always recommended that you ensure your department has added both the fall and winter term enrollments to your student account by the end of September. The payment plan can only include fees that have been assessed in SOLUS. If the winter term fees are added after December, then your PPL withdrawal schedule will change dramatically.  Ensuring both the fall and winter term fees have been applied in September will provide you with a more consistent withdrawal amount for the fall and winter terms.

What if my banking information changes?

Changes to banking info (in SOLUS) received by the end of the month will affect the next scheduled withdrawal. (ie a change in banking info on November 30 will affect the December 7 withdrawal. A change in banking info on December 3, will affect the January 12 withdrawal).

How do I remove myself from the payment plan?

You can request to be removed from the PPL at any time. Just complete the PPL change form and send it to fees@queensu.ca.

Requests to be removed from the PPL received by the end of the month will affect the next scheduled withdrawal. (ie requesting to be removed on Oct 30 will affect the Nov 5 withdrawal. Requesting to be removed on Nov 3, will affect the Dec 5 withdrawal).

What is the failed withdrawal policy?

Students will be removed automatically from the PPL after 3 unsuccessful payment withdrawal attempts (ie NSF, or any other reason) in one academic year. They have to wait for the next academic year to enroll in a PPL.

If you are removed from the payment plan one year for failed withdrawal attempts, you can re-enroll in the payment plan in subsequent years, but you will be removed automatically after only 1 unsuccessful payment withdrawal attempt!

NOTE: Debt from one academic year CANNOT be rolled into the payment plan of the next academic year! A student with debt from a prior year cannot join the payment plan.

If I complete in January, will I still have an amount owing?

Yes.

This is because the Activity Fees charged in the Fall term are divided by the 7 months AND there are only 3 withdrawals in the Fall term.

FOR EXAMPLE: typically, a student who completes in Dec and paid $760/month for 3 months in the fall term, will still owe $650 for the fall term (or $162.50/month in the Winter term if he elects to remain on the PPL).
