If you are selected to receive a General Bursary the name of your bursary may be amended to a named general bursary.

  • Only the name of your award will change; the value of your General Bursary assistance will not change depending on the name of the award

Eligible students will also be considered for named general bursaries open to students in any faculty or school.

Douglas Gould Anglin Memorial Bursary

Founded by Mrs. D.G. Anglin of Montreal, and awarded to a promising student in the first year of Smith Engineering who is in financial difficulty. Engineering who is in financial difficulty.

Science 1997 Bursary

Established by the Class of Science 1997 as their graduating gift to Smith Engineering at Queen's University. Awarded on the basis of financial need to one upper-year student enrolled in Smith Engineering whose contribution to extra-curricular activities or community service exemplifies the Queen's Engineering Society motto of "Renowned Spirit Unrivalled Excellence". Science '99 Award

Established by the Class of Science 1999, with donations to the ThankQ '99 Class Gift Campaign. Awarded to a full-time second, third or fourth year student in Smith Engineering on the basis of financial need and involvement in extracurricular activities that could include employment with a Queen's organization.

Science 2003 ThankQ Bursary

Established in October 2005 by members of the Class of Science 2003 and awarded on the basis of financial need to fourth year students in Smith Engineering at Queen's University. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by October 31.

James A. (Jim) Bennett Memorial Award

Established in November 2000 in memory of James Alfred (Jim) Bennett, B.Sc. (Eng) 1958, M.Sc.(Eng) 1960, Ph.D. 1965 Philosophy (Univ. of Michigan), by his family, friends, students, colleagues, and the Rotary Clubs of Kingston. Awarded annually to a student who is in the fourth year of a Smith Engineering undergraduate degree program and in financial need. The award will honour Dr. Bennett's memory by recognizing a student's service to the Kingston community and his or her leadership/example at Queen's University while maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0 on the work of his or her program. Brison Family Award in Engineering

Established in February 1998 and revised in November 2015 by John W. Brison, Science 1948, Dr. Robert J. Brison, and other family members. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year of Smith Engineering. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by October 31. Value: variable.

Adam Chowaniec Award

Established in September 2019 and last revised in September 2023 by friends, colleagues, and family in memory of Dr. Adam Chowaniec, MSc 1972. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Student Awards.

Robert F. & Helen G. Cole Bursary

Established in May 2007 by Robert F. Cole and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any year or program of studies in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.

A. V. Corlett Memorial Bursary

Established by former students of Professor A.V. Corlett who for many years was Head of the Department of Mining Engineering at Queen's. Awarded on the basis of financial need and promising ability.

Nathan Richard Cowan Memorial Award

Established in October 2002 by family, friends, Smith Engineering and the Department of Economics in memory of a remarkable individual, Nathan Cowan (1977-2002), B.Sc., B.A. (Economics) 2002.  Awarded on the basis of financial need to second, third, or fourth-year students enrolled in Smith Engineering or the Department of Economics. Awarded normally in even-numbered years to students enrolled in Smith Engineering, and in odd-numbered years to students enrolled in the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Candidates will be student-athletes with preference given to a member of the Queen's University Sailing Team, who may demonstrate aspirations to participate at a higher level of competition. The award will be administered in compliance with all O.U.A. and C.I.S. regulations for athletic awards. Joseph Henry Davis Memorial Bursary in Applied Science

Established in September 2007 by Merritt Davis, B.Sc.(Eng) 1945, and Edith Davis, and awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any year or program of study in Smith Engineering.  Preference will be given to students from Hastings County, Ontario.  Application should be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by October 31.

Dean's Bursary in Smith Engineering

Established in October 2020 by the Dean of Smith Engineering through the support of alumni, friends and staff of Queen's University. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of any degree program in Smith Engineering. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by October 31.

Dyer Award

Established in July 2011 by Gerald Dyer, B.Sc.(Eng) 1952, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in the second or third year of any program in Smith Engineering at Queen's University.  Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid, and Awards by October 31. Enbridge Bursary

Established in March 2022 by Enbridge Inc. and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree program at Queen’s University. Preference will be given to Indigenous, Black Canadian, Visible Minority/Racialized or 2SLGBTQ+ students.

Smith Engineering Upper Year Bursary

Established by Smith Engineering and awarded on the basis of financial need to a student entering second, third, or fourth year in Smith Engineering. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid, and Awards by October 31.

Fallah Family Bursary

Established in September 2017 by Fariborz Fallah, B.Sc. 1987, M.Sc. 1990, and Catherine Berka, B.Sc. 1987. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year in Smith Engineering at Queen's University. James (Jim) O. Fenton Bursary

Established in December 2015 by Gail Fenton in memory of her brother, James (Jim) O. Fenton, (1952-1984) B.Sc. (Eng) 1975. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in third or fourth year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program in Smith Engineering. Douglas Fretts Bursary

Established in memory of Douglas Fretts and Bruce Fretts. Awarded on the basis of satisfactory academic standing and financial need to an upper year student in Smith Engineering.

Wesley and Margaret Gerow Bursary

Founded by Mr. Stanley Gerow in memory of his parents and awarded to a second, third, or fourth-year Smith Engineering student from Prince Edward, Northumberland or Hasting Counties. Awarded on the basis of academic proficiency and financial need. If there is no suitable engineering candidate the award can be given to any student from one of these countries. In the absence of a suitable candidate from this group, the award may be given to any Smith Engineering student.

Donald Gordon Memorial Award

James Robert Grasse Award in Civil Engineering

Established in November 2002 from the estate of James Robert Grasse, B.Sc. 1961, and awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to a student in the second year in the Department of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. The award is renewable in the third and fourth year provided the recipient maintains a GPA of 2.0 in each year and financial need remains evident.

Mr. & Mrs. J. H. Hansuld Bursary

Established in January 2020 by the Estate of James Howard Hansuld and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to a student in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program in Smith Engineering. Qamar Jehan Hassan Bursary

Established in May 2002  and revised in June 2015 by Wasim Hassan, B.Sc. '68 in memory of his mother, Qamar Jehan Hassan, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in their third or fourth year of studies in Smith Engineering or the School of Medicine. Application should be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by October 31. Value: variable.

Hatch Award in Applied Science

Established in September 2008 by Hatch Ltd. and last revised in February 2023. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to full-time students in the second year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program in Smith Engineering. The award is renewable for one subsequent year provided a satisfactory academic average is maintained each year and financial need remains evident. An opportunity for remunerated employment at Hatch Ltd. during the following summer may be offered to the recipient; acceptance of employment is not a condition of this award. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Student Awards by 31 October. Value: $19,000 ($9,500 x 2 years).

Sadako and Michio Hayashi Award

Named in honour of Sadako and Michio Hayashi, this award has been established to provide financial assistance to full-time students in financial need who maintain a satisfactory academic standing, and are registered in Smith Engineering.   Application should be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by October 31.

George M. Hood (Sci '43) Athletic Financial Award

The terms for this award are cross listed with named General Bursaries, student athletes.

Susan Elizabeth Hudson Bursary 

Established in October 2021 by Kate and Jonathan Lisus in honour of Susan Elizabeth Hudson. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to female students in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program. 

Idnani and Reel Award

Established in July 2013 by Vikas Idnani and Elise Reel Idnani, BSc'07, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year in Smith Engineering. Victor Gok Leung Lee Memorial Award

Established by Marguerite Lee in memory of her brother, Victor Gok Leung Lee, son of Peter and You Sung Lee. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic excellence to an upper year, full-time, Canadian student in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Smith Engineering or in a Biological Science program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Bruce Lounds Memorial Award

Established in February 2018 by family and friends in memory of Bruce Elgin Lounds. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, and involvement in school or community activities to students in any year of an undergraduate degree program in Smith Engineering. Norman C. Loveland Award

Established in February 2000 and revised in November 2013 by Norman Loveland, B.Sc.(Eng.) 1965, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year of the Civil Engineering Program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.

Neil and Jean Lund Award

Established in November 2019 by Neil Lund, BSc 1947, MSc 1949, and Jean Lund, BA (Hons) 1951.Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, and involvement in extra-curricular activities to students in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program in Smith Engineering. Bruce Gordon McIver Memorial Bursary

Established in memory of Bruce Gordon McIver, B.Sc. William S. McMath Award in Applied Science

Established by the McMath family in memory of Dr. William S. McMath, B.Sc. (Eng) 1965, and awarded to a student registered in the second year in Smith Engineering, on the basis of financial need and strong participation in extracurricular activities. Gwyn Morgan "Be an Engineer" Bursary

C. Bruce Murphy Award in Applied Science

Established by Donald Murphy in memory of his father, C. Bruce Murphy, B.Sc. George H. Newsome Award in Mining Engineering

Established in December 2001 in memory of George H. Newsome (B.Sc. 1939) by his wife, Mrs. Janet Newsome, and awarded on the basis of financial need and academic merit to a full-time student in the second, third, or fourth year of the Mining Engineering program in Smith Engineering. Plumley Family Award in Applied Science

Established by Kent Plumley, B.Sc. (Chem. Eng.) 1960, LL.B. 1963, and Sandra (Macdonald) Plumley, B.A. 1966, and awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in any year of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.

QMind Award

Established in March 2022 by the Queen's Machine Intelligence and Neuroevolution Design organization and participating members. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, and involvement in extra-curricular science-related activities to students in any year of a degree program in Smith Engineering. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated participation in extra-curricular activities related to Artificial Intelligence. Queen’s Engineering 125th Anniversary Award 

Established in October 2023 by Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science to commemorate 125 years of Engineering at Queen’s University. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, and demonstrated leadership to students in any upper year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. Preference will be given to students who have participated in an internship through Queen’s Undergraduate Internship Program (QUIP). Pound & Richards Family Bursary

Established in September 2016 and last revised in October 2020 by David Charles (David) Pound, B.Sc. (Eng) 1970, M.Sc. 1973, commemorating his family's dedication to Queen's over the last 100 years. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of an undergraduate degree program in Smith Engineering. Jean Royce Memorial Bursary

Established by Frank A. Ritchie, B.Sc.(Eng) 1942, in memory of Jean Royce, B.A.(Gen) 1930, LL. D. 1968, former University Registrar. Awarded on the basis of emergency financial need to a student in the first year program in Smith Engineering and who is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. Science 1945 Memorial Bursary

Awarded annually to a student or students in any year of Smith Engineering on the basis of satisfactory academic performance, financial need and participation in a broad range of student activities.

Science 1946 Memorial Bursary

Established in 1946 by Queen’s University and was maintained by the Class of Science 1946 as a memorial to the members who gave their lives in World War II. Last revised in July 2022. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by 31 October.

Science 1948 Award

Established by the Class of Science 1948 and awarded to upper year students in Smith Engineering on the basis of financial need and a sound academic standing.  Application should be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by October 31.

Science '54 Bursary

Established with funds donated by the members of Science '54 and given in appreciation of the efforts of Fred Siemonsen, Science '54, and his wife Mary Lou Siemonsen. Awarded to a student in Smith Engineering in financial need.

Science 1957 Key Bursary

Established by members of the Class of Science 1957 and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any year or program of studies in Smith Engineering.  Application should be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by October 31.

Science 1963 Bursary

Established in October 2006 by members of the class of Science 1963, and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in second year of any engineering program in Smith Engineering.  Application should be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by October 31.

Science 1963 Ontario Bursary

Established in December 2005 by members of the class of Science 1963, and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in second year of any engineering program in Smith Engineering.

Science 1966 Bursary

Established in October 2013 by members of the Class of Science 1966 and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to undergraduate students in any year of Smith Engineering at Queen's University. Science 1982 Award in Applied Science

Science '95 Bursary in Applied Science

Established under the ThankQ program by the Class of Science '95 upon their graduation and awarded on the basis of financial need to two students in their second, third or fourth year in Smith Engineering who have been involved in some form of extra-curricular activity (i.e. athletics, part-time employment, school council, etc.).

Colin Sewards Bursary

Established by family and friends in memory of Colin Sewards, B.Sc.'88, and awarded on the basis of need to a student(s) in Smith Engineering.

Don & Bernice Vetter Bursary

Established by Don Vetter, B.Sc.(Eng.) 1948 and Bernice Vetter, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students enrolled in any year of Smith Engineering. Samuel Weeburn Small Bursaries

Established by Pearl V. Small in memory of her husband, Samuel Weeburn Small, B.Sc.'25. Awarded on the basis of merit and need to students enrolled in any program in Smith Engineering or in a program leading to the B.Sc. degree in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Herman K. Walter Award

Established in December 1997 by Herman K. Walter, BSc (Eng)1945, and last revised in June 2022. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, leadership qualities, and evidence of entrepreneurial spirit to students in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program in Smith Engineering. George Thomas Warren Bursary in Applied Science

Established in October 2000 by Mrs. Evelyn Warren, in memory of her husband, George Thomas Warren, B.Sc.(Eng.) 1938.  Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to full-time students entering second year of the Computer Engineering program in Smith Engineering.

Women in Engineering Bursary

Established in memory of the fourteen women killed at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal on 6 December, 1989. Awarded to an upper year female engineering student showing financial need.

Mark A. Bernstein (Science '48) Award in Engineering

Established in May 1997 and revised in January 2008 by the family of Mark Alan Bernstein, B.Sc. 1948, and awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to a student in the third year of the Engineering Chemistry program in Smith Engineering.  Application should be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by October 31.

Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering Bursary

Given by the Canadian Society for Chemistry and awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Chemical Engineering to the student with the highest standing on the work of the third year in the Engineering Chemistry program in Smith Engineering.

Chemical Engineering Alumni Bursary

Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student registered in the Chemical Engineering program.

James Medves Award in Chemical Engineering

Established in October 2002 by family and friends in memory of James Medves, B.Sc. 1953, and awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to students in the third year of the Chemical Engineering program in Smith Engineering. Candidates should demonstrate involvement in intramural, competitive clubs or recreational club activities, and/or community or volunteer activities. Science 1923 Bursary

Awarded to an undergraduate student in second or third year in either Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance, financial need and participation in a wide range of student activities.

Charles R. Senior Bursary in Chemical Engineering

Established in April 2012 by the Estate of Charles R. Senior, BSc (Chemical Engineering) 1948, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the undergraduate Chemical Engineering program in Smith Engineering.  Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid, and Awards by October 31. Dr. Ernest J. Wiggins Memorial Award in Chemical Engineering

Established in April 2004 by the family in memory of Dr. Ernest J. William James Bracken Memorial Award

Established in memory of William James Bracken, B.Sc.(Eng) 1948 (Civil Engineering), by his family, and awarded to a second, third, or fourth year student in Civil Engineering on the basis of sound academic standing and financial need.

Dr. Arthur L. Brebner Memorial Award

Established in April 2001 by friends and family in memory of Dr. Arthur L. Brebner, who was a professor of Civil Engineering from 1957 to 1988 and department head from 1965 to 1975. Awarded on the basis of financial need and satisfactory academic record to a student in any year in Civil Engineering.

Isabelle Brisson Memorial Award

Established in November 2021 by family, friends and classmates in memory of Isabelle Brisson, BASc 2020.  Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students entering second, third or fourth year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program with an academic plan in Civil Engineering. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate academic excellence.

The Stephen Damp Memorial Award 

Established in October 2021 in memory of Stephen Damp, BSc (Eng.) 1983 and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic achievement and demonstrated leadership in extra-curricular activities or community service to students in any year of Bachelor of Applied Science degree program with an academic plan in Civil Engineering.

Cairncross Bursary in Civil Engineering

Established by Alex T. Cairncross, B.Sc.'31, in memory of his wife Dr. Helen Cairncross and awarded to Canadian citizens and permanent residents in Civil Engineering on the basis of need.

W. John Evert Bursary in Civil Engineering

Established in December 1988 by W. John Evert and revised in March 2021. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program with a plan in Civil Engineering.

Robert W. and Marilynne Fuller Award in Civil Engineering

Established by the family in memory of Robert W. Fuller, B.Sc. 1946, and awarded to students in their second year in the Department of Civil Engineering in Smith Engineering on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, and demonstrated leadership ability in school, community, and/or other extracurricular activities. James Robert Grasse Award in Civil Engineering

Gloria Kodra Memorial Award 

Established in September 2022 by Arup Canada Inc. in memory of Gloria Kodra, BASc 2021, CIB 2021. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program with an academic plan in Civil Engineering. Preference will be given to women. 

Dr. Laurence Hall Civil Engineering Award

Established in February 2010 by Laurence Hall, B.Sc.(Eng.) 1958, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year of the Civil Engineering program in Smith Engineering. Halsall Award

Established by Halsall Associates Limited (Consulting Engineers) to provide financial assistance to a student in need who has completed the third year of the Civil Engineering program and who exhibits a high level of interest and academic achievement in civil engineering applied to buildings, as well as significant contribution to community and/or student activities. The relevant course content would include structures, materials and building science. Awarded on the recommendation of the Department of Civil Engineering.

Simon McNally Bursary in Civil Engineering

Established in memory of Simon McNally, founder of Simon McNally and Sons Limited Construction Company. Awarded on the basis of need, scholarship and evidence of construction experience and practical background. The applicant must be a Canadian citizen, registered in Civil Engineering, and have successfully completed the first two years of Civil Engineering. In addition, the student must submit a brief report with their bursary application describing his/her construction experience. The award will be made in the fall term of the third year. Selection will be made in consultation with the Head of the Department.

Frederick W. Rice Bursary in Civil Engineering

Established by his family in memory of Frederick William Rice of Perth, Ontario, who attended Smith Engineering between 1903 and 1906 but did not complete it because of financial hardship. Selection will be made in consultation with the department.  Application should be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid, and Awards by October 31.

Gordon and Patricia Allen Award

Established in March 2017 by the family of Gordon and Patricia Allen and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents who are students in the Bachelor of Applied Science degree program with an academic plan in Electrical Engineering. Preference will be given to students in third or fourth year.

E. C. Brake Bursary in Electrical Engineering

Established from a bequest from Mr. Eric C. Brake, B.Sc.'28, and awarded annually on the basis of academic standing and financial need to students in the third or fourth years of Electrical Engineering.

William A. (Bill) Davis Bursary

Established in June 2008 by the Estate of William A. Davis, B.Sc.(Eng.) 1962, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students registered in Electrical Engineering in Smith Engineering. Frederick I. L. Dyke Bursary

Established in November 2007 from the estate of Frederick I. l. Dyke, B.Sc. (Engineering) 1941 and awarded on the basis of financial need to third or fourth-year students in Smith Engineering. Preference will be given to students in Electrical Engineering.

Andrew R. McCulloch Award in Electrical and Computer Engineering

Established in January 2013 by Andrew R. McCulloch, Sci 1952 (Electrical Engineering), and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in the second, third or fourth year of a program within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Smith Engineering.  Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid, and Awards by October 31. Robert Malcolm McKenzie Bursary in Electrical Engineering

Established in memory of Robert Malcolm McKenzie, Sc. '12, and awarded annually on the basis of need to an Electrical Engineering student who is a Canadian citizen with a sound academic record and is active in extra-curricular activities and athletics. If the recipient is a student-athlete they must have been a full-time student for at least two semesters in an academic year at Queen's University and be a student in good standing.

The Quon Family Award in Engineering 

Established in June 2022 by the Quon family and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program with an academic plan in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. 

Stephen J. R. Smith Bursary

Established by Stephen J.R. Smith, B.Sc. (Eng) 1972, M.Sc. (Econ). Awarded to students enrolled in an Economics program in the Faculty of Arts and Science or an Electrical Engineering program in Smith Engineering on the basis of financial need, leadership, creativity, and extra-curricular activities. Preference will be given to students who have not received other awards greater than $1,000.

Daniel Grey Watt Bursary

Established in November 1999 by Daniel Grey Watt (BA 1931, BSc 1933) and last revised in July 2022. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in second, third, or fourth year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program with an academic plan in Electrical or Mechanical and Materials Engineering.

Berkley Petroleum Corp. National Awards

Established in May 2002 by Michael L. Rose, B.Sc. (Hon.) (Geology) '79, and Susan Riddell Rose, B.Sc. (Hon.) (Geological Engineering) '86. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to full-time student(s) in the second-, third-, and fourth-year of an undergraduate program in either the Faculty of Arts and Science or Smith Engineering. Preference will be given to students with a concentration in Geological Science or Geological Engineering and to students from outside the Province of Ontario. WAMIC Wood Award

Established in October 2010 by the Women's Association of the Mining Industry of Canada Foundation and representing a bequest made by Sophia Wood who, along with her husband, John Marsh Wood, were a prospecting team working in the Canadian North. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in the third year in the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science or the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering in the Faculties of Arts and Science and Engineering and Applied Science. The award is renewable in year four provided a satisfactory academic average is maintained in year three and financial need remains evident.

Robert T. Whillans Award

Established in November 2017 by Robert T. Whillans, B.Sc. (Honours) 1971, and his wife, Lindsay D. Whillans. T. V. (Tim) Lord Bursary in Mechanical Engineering

Established in 1996-97 by the late Robert A. Elliott, Science ' 41, and other former students of Professor Lord who was head of the Metallurgical Engineering Department from 1938 to 1959. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in Mechanical Engineering.

Michael Craig Matangi Memorial Bursary

Harry R. Buckles Memorial Award

Established by relatives and friends in memory of Harry R. Buckles, B.Sc.'34. Awarded on the basis of need to students of promising ability in the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining at Queen's University.

Stephen Cogan Memorial Award in Mining Engineering

Established in memory of Stephen Cogan, Science '85, by his friends and classmates and awarded to a student entering the third year of the Mining Engineering program. This award will be made to a student on the basis of financial need and satisfactory academic accomplishment. Preference will be given to applicants who have made positive contributions to student and professional activities, including intramural sports, during their attendance at Queen's University. Dumas Mining Bursary 

Established in September 2022 by Dumas Mining and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program with an academic plan in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Preference will be given to students with an interest in the design, development and construction of mines and related infrastructure, and/or production mining. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Student Awards by 31 October. 

R. David Ghent Bursary

Established by family and friends in memory of R. David Ghent, B.Sc.'84. Awarded on the basis of financial need to an undergraduate student in Mining Engineering. Preference will be given first to a student who is a member of one of the Queen's ski teams, and second to a student involved in other athletic activities. In the event there is no qualified student in the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining, the bursary may be awarded to a student in another program in Smith Engineering. Selection will be made in consultation with the Head of the Department.

Established under the terms of the will of Jack Instant in memory of his parents, Reg Instant, B.A. 1895, and Mabel Edna Instant, and awarded to one or more students in Mining Engineering in financial need.

Lawrence B. Merrell Award

Established in April 2004 by a bequest from the estate of Yvette Merrell. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in second, third or fourth year of Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering in Smith Engineering. Preference will be given to students who have expressed an interest in exploration or mine development. Winton and Elizabeth Newman Bursary in Mining Engineering

Established in May 2005 by Melissa Smith, in memory of her parents Winton, B.Sc. 1954, and Elizabeth Newman, and awarded on the basis of financial need to a full-time student in the second or third year in Mining Engineering in Smith Engineering.  Preference will be given to a female student. Established by CIBC/Wood Gundy in honour of Mr. Franklin G.T. Pickard. This bursary will be awarded annually to students enrolled in any year of the Mining Engineering Program. Russell W. Thompkins Memorial Award in Mining Engineering

Established in memory of Russell W. Thompkins, distinguished and admired Emeritus Professor and former Chairman of the Department of Mining Engineering, in recognition of the valued contribution he made to the safety of the uranium mining industry. Awarded on the basis of financial need and overall academic accomplishment to a student in the fourth year of a Mining Engineering program. Preference will be given to students who have made a positive contribution to the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining at Queen's University and to the University through extracurricular activities.

Established by a bequest from the estate of Jeanne T. Costello, and awarded on the basis of academic performance and need, to students enrolled in any year of the Mining Engineering program.
