Transition Program Assessments

Assessments offered through STEPS and OLTS programs

STEPS Program Assessments

steps

Students accepted into the Successful Transition from Elementary to Post-Secondary (STEPS) the program will receive a psychoeducational assessment. STEPS students may not need an updated assessment if they have had a comprehensive assessment in the past two years.

The detailed and comprehensive assessment consists of cognitive and academic testing that help to provide an accurate picture of the student’s learning profile before they begin high school. Participation in the assessment involves a background questionnaire, virtual parent intake interview and consent appointment (about 1-2 hours), and attendance of the student at two to three in-person testing sessions of approximately 3 hours each. Testing sessions take place in-person during office hours (8:30am-4:30pm). Following the testing there will be a 1 hour virtual feedback meeting arranged for the family. Parents will be given written reports which they may choose to share with the school.

The cost of the psychoeducational assessment is $2000. We offer flexible payment options including paying via instalments over a 2-year period. The assessment may also be paid for by deposit or combination of deposit and instalments.

We provide detailed receipts that include the dates/times of testing and psychologist information which can be submitted to insurance companies for those who have coverage for psychological services.

OLTS Program Assessments

The Regional Assessment and Resource Centre (RARC) can provide students with learning disabilities, ADHD, and/or ASD who complete OLTS with an updated psychoeducational assessment. Up to date documentation (such as a recent psychoeducational assessment) is required for all students to access accommodations at college and university. Students must first be accepted to a post-secondary institution before the assessment can be completed. The offer of psychoeducational assessments is not time-sensitive.

The detailed and comprehensive assessment consists of cognitive and academic testing that help to provide an accurate picture of the student’s learning profile before they begin high school. The process begins with the submission of documentation (including but not limited to report cards, IEPs, previous assessments and questionnaires).

Participation in the assessment involves a virtual intake interview and consent appointment (about 1-2 hours), and attendance at two to three in-person testing sessions of approximately 3 hours each. Testing sessions take place in-person during office hours (8:30am-4:30pm). Following the testing there will be a 1 hour virtual feedback meeting to discuss the results of the assessment. Note:  Virtual intake and feedback meetings may be scheduled in-person depending on client and/or psychologist preference.

The fee structure for a psychoeducational assessment is currently set at $2800-3200, and there are funding sources available, which can greatly reduce or eliminate the cost entirely.
