Tailored Programs

Queen's School of English will customize programs for groups and institutions. Programs can be of any duration, but generally range from three to twelve weeks.

A program can be entirely tailored to the course needs of a specific group including both timing and content. The program can also be an overlay program in which tailored groups are incorporated into parts of our existing programs concurrently with customized classes tailored to specific group needs. We have provided many institutions with successful programs of all types.

Program Descriptions

Tailored programs can be broad or narrow in scope and focus.

We can create general English language programs that cover the four language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening and include vocabulary expansion, and pronunciation comprehensibility.

Tailored programs can also be very specialized. In the past, we have created tailored English-for-Specific-Purposesprograms with courses in English for Business, English for Travel and Tourism, Teaching English-as-a-Second Language, and English for Medical Purposes. We have also worked with other faculties at Queen's to offer tailored programs in specific subjects such as Engineering. These programs can count for credit at home institutions, please see the Foreign Credit Transfer Program below.

Foreign Credit Transfer Program

Foreign Credit transfer is an excellent way for overseas institutions to provide their students with a semester abroad for English language study while still allowing them to earn credit in their home program of study. Most often this is done through enrolment in our regular EAP program.  However, for groups of students we can also tailor programs that will meet the home institution's requirements for study abroad semesters and/or foreign credit transfer. We are happy to provide institutions with all relevant and necessary documentation for home institution credit transfer.

Invitation to Tender

The School of English welcomes Invitations to Tender for specialized programs that governments or institutions tender to outside providers. Queen's university is one of Canada's oldest and most prestigious universities, with all of the resources and staffing expertise that implies.

Socio-cultural Activities

Students in the tailored programs have the opportunity to participate in a variety of language intensive socio-cultural activities offered through Queen's School of English. Additional activities and field trips can be customized to a group's needs or desires. Kingston has many historic and cultural venues available for exploration and Kingston is close to major centres such as Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.
