Jean Royce Hall

During the fall and winter sessions, students are assigned rooms on West Campus. Jean Royce Hall is located on West Campus about 2 km from Main Campus (about a 15-20 minute walk). The residence is made up of 12 houses, which also accommodate graduate students, first-year and upper-year undergraduates, and Faculty of Education students.

This community-oriented residence offers all students a unique university residence experience.

Transportation

  • There is public transit bus service approximately every 15 minutes to and from the main campus.
  • School of English students and all Queen's University students are given a free bus pass.
  • Students can wait at a sheltered bus stop across the road from the residence building, and at certain hours (early morning and late evening) the bus will pick students up and drop them off at the residence door.
  • A special shuttle bus operates at night after regular public transit bus hours and will return students to residence from the downtown area.

Room Details

QSoE students live in single bedrooms and share washroom and shower facilities, a common living room, and kitchen facilities with other students from the same floor. Each bedroom contains a single bed with spring mattress and pillow, a dresser, desk, bulletin board, bookshelf, desk lamp, chair and mirror, as well as a telephone. Special long-distance discounts are available.

High-speed Internet connection is available in each bedroom. All students are charged for high-speed Internet service, but they can cancel the service within the first month of the session if they don't want to use it. Students who have paid for Internet service can get a refund if they cancel before the deadline.

Students should bring or be prepared to buy their own blankets, sheets, towels, soap, etc. Some students may wish to purchase a warm comforter for use during cooler weather. Students who wish to have a small fridge in their room may be able to rent one.

Meal Plans

Various optional and flexible meal plans are available to residents of Jean Royce Hall and may be purchased from Queen's Food Services after you arrive in Kingston. Students may choose a meal plan that covers one, two, or three meals a day (Monday - Friday or Monday - Sunday). Other meals can be purchased individually at the cafeteria or in the on-campus retail outlets, or it is possible to cook meals in the kitchen of each "house". There is one kitchen for every 12 students.
