Ms. Martha Whitehead

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership in the ongoing development of information resources and services to support the University's academic programs and research.
  • Oversees Queen's University Library, Queen's University Archives, University Records Management, Queen's Research Data Centre and the Copyright Advisory Office.
  • Positions Queen’s as an active player in regional, national and international partnerships to advance scholarly communications and the preservation of research assets.

Martha Whitehead was appointed Queen's University Librarian at Queen’s in July 2011. This title has change to Vice-Provost and University Librarian to acknowledge the institution-wide scope of the position and alignment with others at a similar level within the Provost's portfolio.

Ms. Whitehead holds an MLS from the University of British Columbia and nearly 30 years of professional academic library experience. Prior to her appointment as University Librarian, she was Interim University Librarian for a year and Associate University Librarian for 6 years at Queen's, following 19 years with the University of British Columbia Library. Her work there included responsibilities in distance learning services, borrower services, reference services, library systems and oversight for library web development and library-wide information services supporting learning and research.

Ms. Whitehead is active in regional, national and international initiatives to advance scholarly communications and the preservation of research assets.
